Lets just say for a moment you did a crime against society and you were sentenced to do time in prison You do your time and are released. Thus you are a free man or women or are you?
It seems that somewhere in time society has been allowed to discriminate people with felony convictions. Thus society has created a new minority and it comes I believe strait from those in Washington DC and filtered down to the common folk known as J.Q. Public.
Don’t believe me? With the invention/discovery of the World Wide Web came also the discovery of background checks. It started out for the public to see who was living next door and around the corner. Now it has filtered into not only the work place but also housing units including what is known as Low Income or Section 8 Housing. To top it off any person with a felony can not gain access to Section 8 Housing for the remainder of his or her life. Thus any person, and I mean it could be your very own son or daughter, could never obtain a roof of their head unless s/he obtains help from a friend.
Is this fair to any person who has a felony record? Some may think so but it is not and it needs to stop before someone gets hurt or dies.
Are people with felonies being discriminated? The answer is yes. And now society has another case of Martin Luther King. Rosa Parks and so forth. And thus, things need to change very quickly before it becomes to late for someone, somewhere. What could happen you ask? Lets say a person with a felony conviction were disabled in one form or another. He or she very well may be taking medications and is seen by he doctor on regular basis. His one problem may not be getting to the doctors or to the pharmacy but where s/he could live in peace and without fear of reprisal. Thus. s/he needs to get into a low income housing unit but how to do so in this society?
There may be an answer and it comes from the very goal and vision of Thunderdome Ministry itself; A Christian campus that would serve as a halfway home for former inmates. I am not talking about dorms but actual houses very similar to the very one you may be living in at this point in time. Start up costs would run into the double digits and better. Perhaps a more exacting projection would be around fifty million dollars. This would bring in the buying of 100 acres and building 4 bedroom ranch styled houses and a chapel with a learning center and classrooms.
- Are felons discriminated against? Yes and sometimes even by ministries sad to say.
- Can it be stopped? Yes
- Will he government help? Doubtful
- Is there an answer? Yes
- What is he answer? Jesus
In Gods Word we see Him posed at a door knocking. What people need to do is to open the door and allow Him inside. This means both the rich and poor, sick and healthy. bond or free. We know he answer and it is Jesus, but will you open you door to help another?
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave the drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Matthew 25: 34-40
My question to you is as follows: will you help those Jesus called he least of these? Or will you sit on the sidelines and watch?
